Chester Mystery Plays in Miniature

This compact performance managed to pack the six days of creation into a vivid half-hour spectacle involving a variety of community schools, dance and musical groups (see full Programme), with a stunning backdrop created in association with the University of Chester’s Multi-Media Department.

Noah's Flood

The Chester Mystery Plays 2008 musical version of Noah’s Flood was performed four times in the Amphitheatre in June 2010, staged on and around a Pageant Waggon, and was seen by over 4,000 people. Over 100 people from the local community (including children from Dee Point Primary School and Jigsaw Children’s Music Theatre) were involved in the production as performers and providing technical/stage management support.

This spectacular and triumphant production was enthusiastically received by audiences and critically acclaimed in the press. It involved over 500 members of local communities who volunteered their services as performers, technical/stage management support, front of house and bar staff, chaperones and marketing and administrative teams. It was seen by over 12,500 people, and a further 3,000 watched street theatre performances. (See full

A concert version of the production was performed in the nave of Liverpool Cathedral on 10 and 11 October 2008. This was the first time the plays had been taken outside of Chester by the community company. The production was Chester’s contribution to Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.

This production brought the artistic team of Robin Goddard and Matthew Baker together for the first time, resulting in one of the most successful productions in the modern era.

It involved over 400 members of the local community and was seen by over 10,000 people.
